Love the game guys.. keep up the good work.. looking forward to some updates.. a few questions if I may..
LBW – there are no LBW’s in the game? Why not? It is too hard to code?
Dropped Catches – like wise, no one ever seems to drop a catch. Is it not possible to add a fielding or catching rating which determines what chance player has of dropping a catch? Or just globally add a % chance that a catch will be dropped… I dont every catch to be dropped, but it would add to the excitment and randomness if there were dropped catches now and again..
Test Matches – Saw someone else post about this.. would love a Test Match Game Mode..
Again.. great keep keep it up..
Again.. great keep keep it up..Rob!
Well do, and we try to reply to most queries, but we do sometimes miss the odd post due to … well … developing our games.
Okay, your questions.
1) LBW. We have considered this but it’s a surprisingly thorny issue and we think what the game does now captures the spirit of the laws.
At the moment, the ball will hit the wickets if it was going to hit the wickets so instead of getting LBW you get bowled. To properly do LBW we’d have to add collision to the batsman’s body so the ball would bounce off it. Then we’d have to add injuries. Then we’d have to add the ability to duck and pad the ball away. Then we’d have to add the ability for the umpire to make an LBW call. If it was 100% accurate, we might as well leave it how it is … if the ball is on line it bowls you as it makes the system a lot more clear and obvious. If we have the umpire make more realistic calls it could be extremely frustrating as players get out (or opponents stay in) despite them doing everything right.
2) Dropped catches. They are in the game, but they are rare at higher difficulty levels. They are based on the speed of the ball coming in and how far the player has had to run in them moments before he stops to catch.
3) Test matches. We think this is a good idea too. It involves some changes to our core code so it’s a feature that we want to include but it’s one that requires us to step lightly.
